Amnesty International is 50!
50 years ago, one man stood up against the imprisonment of two students for raising a toast to freedom. British lawyer Peter Benenson launched an Appeal for Amnesty 61’ with the publication of, The Forgotten Prisoners, in The Observer newspaper. This article began the development of Amnesty International and the appeal was reprinted in other papers across the world. This one man’s voice would inspire a movement that addresses injustices around the globe.
In the past 50 years, Amnesty International has campaigned for and helped to release thousands of individuals imprisoned simply for voicing their opinions. This action has given hope to the many around the world who experience intimidation, violence, or even death. Amnesty’s purpose is to protect people wherever justice, freedom, truth and dignity are denied.
As their 50th year comes to a close, Amnesty International has partnered with Citizen Group and IQ Motion Picture Productions to create an uplifting film of solidarity. The One More Voice Film will capture individuals around the world who stand connected and committed to human rights for all.
To achieve this global collaboration, we invited film-makers who share Amnesty’s vision of universal human rights to film at least one scene in their part of the world. At this stage of production we have received over 17 submissions from all corners of the globe including; Ecuador, Spain, Quebec, India, Thailand and others. The footage will be put to music scored by Academy Award-winning composer, Hans Zimmer. The editing process is underway and we’re excited for it’s premier.
