“One More Voice” Project Launches

After a year in the making, I’m pleased that today marks the launch the “One More Voice” film project, featuring a new series of PSAs and web video that commemorate the 50th anniversary of Amnesty International. Of the many projects we’ve conceived and produced for Amnesty over the years, this one was a surprisingly fresh and welcome experience – primarily because it involved a collaboration with more than two dozen directors around the globe, both young and established. Through the power of digital technology, Skype, and Citizen’s production partner IQ (International Quorum of Motion Picture Producers) we worked with talented people across the four corners who each contributed a scene to the project. Production took place in countries on six continents, including Egypt, Abu Dhabi, Australia, Hong Kong, Kenya, the Czech Republic, Ecuador, Hungary, India, Switzerland, Sweden, South Africa and the U.S.

The effort was then capped off with the experience of working with Oscar winners Hans Zimmer and his partner Lorne Balfe who composed an original score for Amnesty’s 50th, and Meryl Streep who donated her talents for the voice-over.

From the people behind the camera to the people in front of it, “One More Voice” is a testament to people power. The project helps capture a moment in time when freedom is breaking out all over the world.  From raucous celebrations in city centers to the silent hunger strikes of prisoners in isolation, it demonstrates the power of international unity in the fight for freedom and justice that Amnesty has led in its half century defending human rights around the world. Whether the issue be torture, equal rights, the death penalty or violence against women, as Meryl Streep intones at the end of each piece, “Together we are unstoppable.”

Here’s to Amnesty continuing the good fight for the next 50 years – a mere blink in the scope of human history.  It is the hope of every contributor that projects like these inspire a new generation of activists to join Amnesty International’s life-saving work.
